Julia's Birthday, Part Deux

After Julia's birthday party on Father's Day, we headed back to Colorado Monday morning. We stopped in Pittsfield, IL, where Evan's dad and his family are from. We ate at the only McDonald's in town where the dirtiest little girl put Julia's pacifier back in Julia's mouth for her and then tried to poke Julia's eyes out. Not to worry, though, because her grandma yelled from the table for the girl to come over that before she "whooped" her. Classic.

Before we left town, we stopped by Evan's Grandma and Grandpa B's graves. We spent every Father's Day in Decatur at Grandpa B's, eating fried chicken and sitting in his backyard. We thought it only appropriate to stop by and say Happy Father's Day. (Plus, Grandpa B loved Tauruses, so we wanted to show off the new one!)

Julia woke up on her birthday in a hotel in Kansas. She spent 9 hours in the car and was quite adament about letting us know how done she was with long car rides. Poor baby. What a crappy way to spend your first birthday. Not to worry, because we stopped at an Applebee's for lunch where Elisabeth announced Julia's birthday to the hostess and they gave her balloons.

Thankfully, Julia is just a baby and has no high expectations for her birthday. We had to convince Ebeth that it was okay that we were celebrating Julia's birthday the day after, but she eventually came around to the idea. So, we had presents and cake!!!
Ebeth helped Julia open presents (of course).
See, she's such a flincher!
Julia received a musical teapot with 2 teacups and 3 desserts!

A baby pool.
And this was a bench for the front porch/step for her to sit on!
I got Julia's cake idea from a cook book my Grandma Sandy gave me from 1959. It was called a cut-up girl...but she turned out a bit more clownish than I was comfortable with. Hey, I had about 2 hours to make her a cake...I had to go with what I had!

Now, you'd think since I made the cake vanilla it wouldn't have been near as messy as the chocolate cake at Jana's...WRONG!

Checking out her new bench!
