One of the first things we did when we moved to Rockford (besides buy a bigger shovel and a mountain's sized amount of salt for the driveway) was to buy a membership to the Rockford Discovery Museum. This place is the bees knees! It is an $80 membership for our whole family and we can go visit as often as we like!
We have seriously been at least every ten days.
It's your typical children's museum in that it has the cool science-y things like learning how the body works:
Physics things:
And so on.
But, the most important thing it has going on is the absolute best Tot Spot ever! I can bring my kids and sit for a couple of hours while they roam a pretty enclosed area and pretend to do all kinds of cool things.
Like play with the giant doll house (technically right outside the Tot Spot):
the water tables:
the giant train track that is nailed to the train table so you never ever have to pick up or put together the tracks (genius!!!):
a child life sized engine:
a play house that is so freaking cool:
complete with phones that work:
the mechanic shop:
the construction zone:
and the campsite:
(Not pictured, the veterinary clinic.)
It's really one of the best things we could have joined. Even though they usually just play together, there's always a few other kids frolicking around there during school hours.
We do sometimes explore the lower level which they have found some equally fun activities to do.
Their current new favorite is the farm area:
And!!! Now that it's warming up, their outside area is finally open!
It's our new favorite place to be.
