Pekin Trip! Our first trip post quarantine!

David's greatest wish for his fifth birthday was to go to Pekin, ride on Papa's motorized Jeep, swim in Aunt Kyle's pool, and celebrate with his Pekin family. We were all hoping that by the time June came around we'd be far enough out of quarantine to be comfortable traveling.

Thankfully, his birthday dreams came true! We went down Friday the 19th and David and Thomas sprang from the car and straight into the beloved Jeep.

Thomas's faces in these pictures are hilarious!

He is crazy happy, you can see it in his eyes.

This is a really bittersweet picture because I feel like this will be them in about 11 years only with a real car.

While the boys were driving around, a deer came up behind Kyle's house near the trees. You guys, this deer did not give a hoot that the boys were driving around in motorized cars, it just kept hanging out by the salt lick.

David finally stopped long enough to look at the deer.

And then proceeded to drive closer to it!

The next day, on David's actual birthday, I got up early to make him a race car birthday cake.

He was so stinking excited all day about his birthday. He was so sweet and patient.

My family came over, too, to celebrate and have some cake.

Julia is much taller than my mom and they were twinning!

After presents and cake, it was time for some swimming!

This is the first year that Thomas was not only allowed to be in the pool for longer than a few minutes, but also the first time where he cooperated and didn't try to drown himself!!!! Progress!!!

Ethan decided to drive his old Jeep for a while, which David found most amusing.

Papa also has a Kettle car that David can finally pedal! In fact, Thomas can kind of pedal it now too, so there was a bit of fist-fighting over it.

We got to visit my grandma!!!!! She still can't have visitors come inside, but we got to chat with her through the windows!!

We celebrated Julia's birthday early with our families on Sunday. Kyle surprised Julia with a horse ride at McNaughton Park and Kyle and Ethan, Evan and the other two girls joined her!

Then she got to open presents.

Also, Sunday was FATHER'S DAY!

Keith has the best flowers!

On the way home to Rockford, the clouds were putting on the best show for us!!

Sunday Night Dinner Party: Curbside McDonald's Edition.

On Julia's actual birthday, we celebrated just like she always asks: with all of her favorite meals, opening presents, and all of us around the table as we sing and she makes a wish.

Going to Pekin and loving on our families was truly wonderful after months of having to stay away. We can' wait to go back!
