Hippie Festival a Bust :(

This past Saturday, I found a "festival" in Woodland Park that I wanted to go to. It was called the Holistic Health & Metaphysical Fair, which should have told me right there that Evan would hate it, but I wanted to try something new. We'd never been to Woodland Park, so it was an excuse to go. Omg, it was so lame. First off, if there are only 12 vendors in a tiny little room inside, that is NOT a festival. They had rocks and candles and aura readings and other things that made Evan want to beat every person up in his sight line. Thankfully, military and their families were free, so it didn't matter that we were in and out in 10 minutes. Evan kept mumbling, "damn hippies" the rest of the day. Sorry, Evan.

However, right across the street was an awesome dinosaur museum. Elisabeth was psyched about getting to go and it turned out to be really interesting. It made up for the hippie festival, I was told later. :)

Evan and his beautiful dinosaur magnetic masterpiece.
That dinosaur is going to eat my baby!

The tour was the best part. Despite the lady's droning, oddly northernish accented voice that made me want to scratch her eyeballs out, she was a vat of information. She took all the questions with lots of patience. Also, that bone she's holding is a real one and not a replica and we all got to touch it!!!!!!!
Poor Julala passed out half way through. :(
Not a dinosaur, but some sort of pre-elephant animal. It was part of the darwin exhibit. It was neat-o.

These pictures were taken in the car on the way back down the mountain. Woodland Park is 8,500 ft. up, which is quite high, if you ask me.

The weather here can be super creepy.

First, here is the nest that is being built over our doorway. The birds (pictured below) were trying to build it over our front light, but Evan broke their nest. Well, they are persistent little things, and they started building it on our doorframe. I took pity on their dedication and have forbidden all tearing down of this nest and have Elisabeth as my ally for the argument. Evan is none too pleased, but the birds are so pretty and it's so interesting watching them build their nest. You see, it is a mud nest, and they do a layer a day of mud, grass, and sticks. It's like a built in science lesson!

Aren't they pretty?!

The weather here is so odd. It's gorgeous in the mornings and then by 3:00PM, it starts clouding up and getting stormy. We see lightening every day. One day, after 3 attempts at going to the park and getting poured on once, we were rewarded with rainbows! There were two, but I think you can only see the one in this picture.

Then it clouded up again. This was one attempt at going to the park. Look at these things! They are scary and close and HUGE. I love/fear them.

So, after boo-hooing in my other post about how being a SAHM sucks, my bestest friend Mel gave me some other military wives to get in contact with and some links to pursue for mommy and me groups and whatnot. Well, I took her advice and, last Thursday, I googled parenting groups in the area. I am happy to say that I joined 3 new groups and even went to an event that Friday! One group is a walking moms club that meets every Friday at an awesomely breathtaking park in downtown Colorado Springs and walks 3 miles along the trail. Elisabeth made a friend and did not complain one bit about the long walk and I got to meet quite a few moms who are new to the area, from out of state and have husbands in the military. One lady's husband had left that Wednesday for a year long rotation to Afghanistan and they have an almost two year old. It made me appreciate that Evan is home with us right now and that we don't have to worry about him being deployed anytime soon (knock on wood). Then, I joined a book club for GROWN UPS with NO KIDS. Their first meeting in June I'll be gone for Brian and Stephanie's wedding in Pekin, but I am so there for July's. And, lastly, I have another group that meets for playdates throughout the week at parks, libraries, etc. It was so nice to actually have plans on Friday. It was nice to see Elisabeth play with kids and be able to say, "See you next week!". And, it's nice to be getting to know our new community.

Alright, enough about me. I'll talk a little Evan for a while. :) Evan's doing great. He jumped right back into parenting (including night time parenting!) without so much as a backwards glance (not that he had any choice, but he has done it voluntarily). He is still the rookie at his office, but will be getting promoted to Captain in July! Elisabeth will get to pin him at his pinning ceremony! He is doing a great job of answering my overwhelmed/panicked/fed up texts about the girls throughout the day and is very understanding when I leave him at night to go on a walk by myself while he gives the girls baths and gets them ready for bed. I shall still keep him.

The many faces of Julia

Julia was not a fan of the grass this day, but really wanted to watch Ebeth ride her scooter.

Looking at me and deciding I should hold her.
Trying to wooo me with her charm.
Lunging at me without touching the grass with her hands.
Oh no! The right hand made contact with the brittle Colorado grass!
Nevermind, she's going to wave at Ebeth as she scoots on by.
Now she's desperate and will try the tears.
For the love of god, pick me up!!
You never listen to me!
She is distracted by her new attempts at making raspberry noises with her lips.
YES! Elisabeth came by for hugs! Best big sister ever!
Such a thinker, that Julala.
Back to raspberries.
This is hard.

What do you mean my baby'll be 1 this month?

Where did a year go? And when did Julia become an actual (grumpy but loveable) person? I am listening to her belly laugh at Elisabeth and can't help but think that Julia is a perfect addition to this family. It's hard to fathom that a baby that isn't even a year yet, is totally her own person. She has mannerisms and attitudes that are completely her own and so different than what we'd experienced with Elisabeth. She's so moody and routine oriented. She naps at the same times every day, and even wakes up around the same time every night. She loves loves loves dolls, which Ebeth never gave a second thought too. I have loved getting to spend so much time with Julia and I know Evan appreciates the 6 months he got to be the stay at home daddy to her too. Well, here's a month by month of my almost one year old. *sniff* *sniff*

All buckled in for her car ride home. Already yellow with jaundice!
She was so tiny! She loved sleeping in that baby swing.
At 2 months, her cheeks are already starting to fill in.
She lived in slings the first 3 months of her life. The girl was a cranky baby!
Already showing contempt for us. :)
I love this pic.
Aw! Isn't she the saddest?!
Snow baby. 6 months.
Hanging out with her BFF Moxie the Cat.
8 months.
9 months and still sleeping in the bassinet in our room.
The girl LOVES bath time.
Ha! Classic Julala grumpy face!!

We heart parks.

To say we like parks is an understatement. And, the lovely thing is, we're surrounded by parks here! There's 3 within a 10 minute walking distance of us. We've checked out all three and liked them all. Poor Julia, though, doesn't have much to do when we go to parks since there's nothing for her to do except eat grass and woodchips (which she does with enthusiasm). But, she does love watching Ebeth climb all over everything, and if you give her crackers, she's good as gold.

Unlike Elisabeth at this age, Julia does not mind wearing hats and is so cute in them! This is her official summer hat!

I think this is for water, but I put Julia in it.

This girl needs an Oscar the Grouch shirt. Seriously.

I also wanted to let you in on how dinner time is going now that we're all together. Well, Julia is still the food tyrant. Except now, Evan gets to witness it instead of getting phone calls during dinner time of me complaining about Julia's eating habits.

So, Julia was SCREAMING because we all had slices of watermelon and she was being given mere chunks. So, we gave her her own slice. This was after she'd dumped her yogurt everywhere and smeared it in spite. Ah, the joy that is Julia.
Notice that she doesn't even lift her arms to the table when she's being fed. That's because she is a lazy, lazy baby.

Her favorite kitchen toy.
How I make any meal--with Ebeth helping and Julia pulling on my pant legs and whining.
Chillaxin' on Daddy after a wonderful meal.
