Another Tuesday. Another Virtual Coffee. I'm so glad you're here today.
If you were really here having coffee with me today...
You know we'd talk about the weather. We'd have to, because it's been in the 70s lately and will be in the 60s today and that's just about the perfectest fall weather you could ask for. There's snow in the forecast for this week, but I'm not even angry because how can I possibly complain about the first snow fall not being until almost 2 weeks into November?!
I'd tell you that I'm already planning my Thanksgiving meal. We're having some of Evan's co-workers over and his parents are flying in Thanksgiving morning now, too! I'll be roasting a turkey, which I've already bought. I know, I'm so on the ball this year! Another family is bringing a turkey to fry and the other family is bringing a ham. I'm thinking we're good to go on feeding 14 people, don't you?
I'd probably show you my laundry pile. It's enormous. It's invading our living space. Why? Why does it only take a couple days of neglect for it to reach an overwhelming amount of dirty laundry?! And the thing is, I have no problem sorting and washing and drying and folding the clothes, but I hatehatehate putting the clothes away. It was a glorious day when I realized that Elisabeth could put away her own laundry from now on.
If you were sitting with me at my kitchen table drinking coffee with me...I'd ask what your Thanksgiving plans are. I'd ask what foods are always served (I'm always on the look out for a new recipe, you know). I'd ask if you ever host Thanksgiving. I love hosting. I really do.
Tonight I have book club. We're reading Judas by Frederick Ramsay. It's a fictional account of the Judas from the New Testament and all the events from his perspective. It's a super interesting idea (especially for those familiar with Judas being portrayed as a villain), but I find the writing lacking. I don't feel like there's enough character development and I am wanting to know more about Judas' thoughts and feelings than I am getting. I can't wait to see what everyone else thought of it though! I will tell you what, book club is one of my favoritest things. It's so nice to get out of my house and have intelligent conversations with other adults. Sure, we laugh and joke and enjoy some wine, but I use my brain and I debate and discuss. It's nice. Especially when most of my day is spent talking about using the toilet, reminding my children why outside voices used inside make mommy cry, and forever cleaning up after the people who live in my home (myself included). As you were leaving today...I'd remind you to check out Amy over at Lucky Number 13. Her posts and pictures always make me feel warm and happy. Sometimes it's like she's read my mind and posted my thoughts on her blog. You should go visit her.
Goodbye and I'll be here waiting with coffee next Tuesday!
Coffee was absolutely lovely as always. I'm surrounded by laundry, too. I probably should get on that instead of the computer. Your book sounds right up my alley. I should put that on my reading list. Thanks for the coffee & the suggestion.
ReplyDeleteI am getting excited for Thanksgiving too!! I love my mom's stuffing and her pecan pie. Have you ever been to http://thepioneerwoman.com/ ?
ReplyDeleteShe has been posting a bunch of Thanksgiving recipes and they look so delicious. It would be a good place to find some new ones to try out! Enjoy your day and rest of the week!
YAY for the weather! I love, love LOVE your photos! You have a great eye and I think you NEED a big girl camera :D Wink!
ReplyDeleteI am bummed that I am missing book club tonight, I feel the exact same way about it. I laugh that book club is such an exciting outing for me these days. Ten years ago I would have snickered at going to (ick) book club. :D See you next week!
You are a brave woman hosting Thanksgiving :) We did it last year, but only for us and my brother... and that was the second or third time? We always just do the staples - turkey (though not for me this year...) mashed potatoes, veggies, gravy, stuffing... this year I need to find a protein filled vegetarian option to take to my mother in laws that will go with thanksgiving dinner... thoughts?? :)
ReplyDeletethanks for the sweet comments! : )
ReplyDeletethe funny thing is--i have been wanting to join a bok club myself not only for the wine but to actually use my brain for something other than being a referee and all that my day normally entails. love it all but would also like to do something "grown-up" sometimes too. thanks so much for coffee!
We just finalized our Thanksgiving plans last night. We're in charge of dessert, like every year. I'm bringing ice cream pumpkin pie and Tollhouse pie. I may have to make one early, just to test it out. :-)
